Description
Summary:This article explores the significance of the visual and textual hybridity of three contemporary American fictions, William Gass’s The Tunnel, Mark Z. Danielewski’s Only Revolutions and Vanessa Place’s La Medusa. Each of them shows a different mode of generating narrative in visual-verbal assemblages, which question our relation to reading. Foregrounding the textual process of inscription and opening narrative to iconic embodiments, those texts also draw our attention to the condition of print books and literature in the digital age. They challenge us to find or invent new forms of critical analysis adjusted to their hybrid narrative configurations.
