description |
Foundation: The Questionnaire on Negative Stereotypes towards Old Age has been one of the most widely used instruments to assess these stereotypes; however, it has not been linguistically or culturally adapted for health professionals in Cuba.
Objective: to linguistically and culturally adapt the Questionnaire on Negative Stereotypes towards Old Age for health professionals in the Cuban context.
Methods: technological development research R&D&I, carried out in three stages: linguistic and cultural adaptation, evaluation by expert criteria and piloting in health professionals. Qualitative and quantitative techniques were combined: consultation with linguists and experts, piloting, debriefing, Cronbach's alpha (α) and analysis of elimination of items.
Results: Linguists and experts proposed minimal semantic changes to five items of the questionnaire with a CVC = 0.97. In the pilot test, an α = 0.83 was obtained, which represented adequate reliability. It was not necessary to eliminate any item and the item-total correlations remained above the minimum level in general. The results of the debriefing showed a good understanding of the questionnaire, which allowed it to be answered in a short time.
Conclusions: The linguistic and cultural adaptation of the Negative Stereotypes Questionnaire towards Old Age, to Cuban Spanish, shows similarity with the original version. It is recommended that future studies verify the reliability and validity of the instrument in a larger sample of health professionals in the Cuban context.
|
