description In 1965 Roger Marijnissen wrote an historical overview of the conservation profession. This survey was a first chronology that integrated the theoretical foundations of the profession with the historical conservation practice. It formed a starting point for future investigation. The present paper gives a brief overview of the developments in the study of the history of the conservation field since 1965. The overview shows that this study has become a full-fledged historical science which is constantly developing and furthers the possibility of not only increasing the knowledge of the past more and more but also to investigate it permanently from new and different perspectives.
