Description
Summary:In mountain regions, the positive role of agriculture on landscapes is the object of a long-held and widely shared consensus the nature of which, however, remains vague and archetypal. This article analyses landscape representations and practices in three areas in the Pyrenees through a study of the different types of actions conducted by pastoral landowner associations. The highly standardised, constraining and involving nature of these associations facilitates the expression of the positions of stakeholders such as land owners, who seldom contribute to research on the dynamics of the territory and the landscape. Through their statements, compared with those of elected representatives and farmers, the following landscape models emerge: the agricultural model, the memorial model and the chosen lifestyle model. These models bear resemblances to and at the same time differ from the various concrete forms of action applied to the landscape by farmers within the framework of these Pastoral Landowner Associations.
