description This article is an expanded version of a lecture delivered at the conference “Promoting ethnologists’ archives: contemporary uses of collections”, which took place in October 2018 in Paris and Nanterre. The aim is to take stock of researchers’ use of ODSAS, a platform for scientific archives and research data manipulation. ODSAS, which is particularly adapted to the constraints of anthropology and to the ethical issues that this discipline raises, especially as regards data sensitivity, endeavours to meet the demands of researchers as much as possible. This article shows that researchers use the platform with the following aims: safeguarding and archiving their data, enriching and documenting archives and, finally, as a tool enabling data to be returned to the original populations, and as a data archiving and circulation tool recognised by authorities.
