Description
Summary:Background: diabetes mellitus is a disease that has a negative impact on society in general and on health in particular, due to the high costs it causes both at the institutional level and in people.
Objective: to identify new predictive factors for the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Method: a cohort study was carried out that included all the patients seen in the endocrinology clinics of the Pedro Díaz Coello health area in Holguín. For the statistical analysis, the SPSS program, version 25.0 was used, and the binary and descriptive logistic regression techniques were applied. The relationship of the analysis variables with the output variable was established through the Odd Ratio (OR), which was calculated for each of these, with a coefficient index of 95 %.
Results: 36.5 % of the patients were diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus. The variables explained 74.9 % of the output variable. The variables used in the series were statistically significant. The variables used presented an Odd Ratio greater than 1 and a significance of less than 0.05, which helped to identify patients at risk of suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Conclusions: among the new predictive factors for the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus are: the value of microalbuminuria, periodontal disease, sensitivity disorders in the lower limbs, a pathological history of hypothyroidism and eye fundus alterations.
