Description
Summary:Urban decarbonization is critical for addressing climate change, given that urban areas are major contributors to global greenhouse gas emissions. In this paper there are synthesized findings from several studies on indicators for urban decarbonization. The review highlights the complexity of measuring urban decarbonization due to the diverse and interconnected factors involved. Key findings indicate that while there are numerous indicators available, there is no single measure that captures the full scope of urban decarbonization outcomes. Instead, a combination of indicators is necessary to provide a comprehensive assessment. The paper also identifies best practices and successful case studies from various cities that have implemented effective decarbonization strategies. Despite the progress, significant challenges remain, including data availability, financial constraints, and the need for coordinated governance structures. The review underscores the importance of continuous improvement in measurement methodologies and the integration of multiple indicators to guide policy decisions. This literature review contributes to the growing body of knowledge on urban decarbonization and provides a foundation for future research and policy development.
