| Summary: | This article is based on interviews made in 2006 with factory workers from the French automobile industry (car companies and suppliers). The objective was to analyse their past and present conditions of work and the effect that these had on their health, based on their career trajectories. The words of the interviewed workers show a worsening of working conditions and in the atmosphere at work since the end of the 1980’s. Recalling past working conditions allows one to make the link between the previous situation and the current pathology. People are capable of keeping good memories of a time when their work was more physically grueling than today, but compensated by solidarity or conviviality and a certain form of autonomy. |
