Summary: | The article proposes the algorithm for the environmental and hydro/economic
assessment of rural territories in Altai Kray based on combination of two groups of indicators, that is environmental and water/economic ones. The environmental block consists of indicators describing quantity and quality of the water resources used. Attention focuses on groundwater as the main source of water supply in rural areas. The water/economic block comprises the indicators describing the current state of water supply in rural settlements. Within the framework of environmental/water/economic estimation, we have solved two
problems: 1) classification of rural regions of Altai Kray by indicators reflecting the state of the drinking water supply sector, 2) differentiation of water management problems in Altai Kray for developing a set of measures for their mitigation. We have defines four categories of environmental/water/economic estimation: conditionally satisfactory, stresses, critical states, and crisis. According the character and the degree of obviousness of the problems under
investigation four clusters of the Altai Kray administrative regions have been identified. Each of them is characterized by the common features of water sector development. |
