Summary: | Triflumezopyrim, a newly commercialized insecticide that belongs to a novel class of mesoionic insecticides, is widely used in rice fields for controlling brown planthoppers. Insecticides infiltrate from crop fields to aquatic ecosystems through leaching and rainwater, thereby affecting aquatic organisms. However, the effects of triflumezopyrim on the gut microbiota of zebrafish (Danio rerio) are largely unknown. Herein, we utilized 16S rRNA gene sequencing to reveal the aquatic eco-risk of triflumezopyrim in the gut microbiota of zebrafish. Fishes were exposed to a sublethal concentration (6.77 ppm) of triflumezopyrim for 21 days. Significant changes in the abundance, diversity, and function of gut microbiota were observed. Specifically, the relative abundance of Proteobacteria and Tenericutes increased in the treatment group. In addition, functional potentials (e.g., metabolism, environmental information processing, and cellular processes) in the gut were significantly affected. The results of this study will contribute to a better understanding of the ecological risk of triflumezopyrim in the gut microbiota of fishes. This is the first sequencing study that provided comprehensive insight into the changes of gut bacterial communities in Danio rerio exposed to triflumezopyrim. |
