| Summary: | Background:
Different modalities of orthodontic treatment (OT) can have different amounts of external resorption of root (ERR) among root canal obturated teeth (ROT) having zirconia crowns and teeth with vital pulp (VPT).
Aim:
This study was carried out to evaluate ERR in different modalities of OT in ROT having zirconia crowns and contralateral teeth with vital pulp.
Methods and Materials:
130 patients having ROT with zirconia crowns and contralateral teeth with vital pulp undergoing OT were included. 65 patients underwent extraction orthodontic treatment (EOT), and 65 patients underwent non-extraction orthodontic treatment (NEOT). Cone beam computed tomography was used for calculating ERR.
Results:
The ERR values in ROT with zirconia were 0.48 ± 0.64 mm in NEOT, while the ERR values in VPT were 1.41 ± 1.20 mm in NEOT. The ERR values were greater in VPT in NEOT as well as EOT (P = 0.001).
Conclusion:
The external root resorption values were greater in vital teeth as compared to root obturated teeth with zirconia in different orthodontic treatment modalities. |
