description Following a call for Landscape Plans issued by the Ministry of Ecology in 2021, the Gâtine Centre for Regional and Rural Development (in French, Pôle d’Équilibre territorial et rural de Gâtine) launched a broad landscape study of the Gâtine Poitevine area with the intention of encouraging local players to take a forward-looking, cross-disciplinary and concerted approach to landscape planning and dynamics, taking into account the need to adapt to current evolutions and climate change. Laying the foundations for a future Regional Nature Park this Landscape Plan covered the 78 municipalities in a vast rural livestock and crop farming area around the town of Parthenay. This area is unique in that it boasts one of the densest and best preserved bocage networks in France. This bocage is the key element of the landscape, it reconciles the rural and urban spaces of tomorrow, generates biodiversity and protects the water resources of the valleys. However, it is also in economic difficulty since it is dependent on fragile farming practices. As part of the Landscape Plan, a team of landscape architects, sound artists and web developers has developed an online sound map to provide an accessible digital tool for sharing reflections concerning future landscapes on a large scale. In keeping with the study of the landscape based on dialogue, the article takes the form of a conversation focusing on six questions that outline the main issues of this shared experience and of the connection forged between landscape, sound and digital applications.
