Summary:Both distant and close, Pierre Bourdieu maintained ambiguous relationships with the Bearnaise language. While referring to his "hatred of accent" in Pierre Carles' film, he sponsored of the Calendreta bilingual schools in Pau. Even tough, he never wrote any book about this language, he refers to it in several of his works; in his view, Béarnais language is the link with the father's world. Therefore, this is the point of view of the "defector",as he defined himself, which appears here and there. From this scattered data, this article tries piecing together the puzzle to understand these odd relationships linked to a social status.
