Description
Summary:In this paper, we analyse the working conditions of retail apprentices enrolled in dual-track vocational and educational training (VET). Based on qualitative interviews, observations and group discussions, we study how apprentices experience their training within the company and what role working conditions play for the development of their occupational identities. Four central dimensions emerged from the analyses: the intensity of the work, the temporal availability coupled with the socio-economic insecurity, the social relationships in the company and the relationship with the customers. Questions of autonomy are treated transversally as they interfere with - by attenuating or amplifying - the other conditions.
