Description
Summary:Abstract The socialist economic system of the GDR collapsed in 1990. After reunification, the core objective of the Aufbau Ost was to create a business sector in the former GDR that could survive in international competition. The former socialist enterprises were privatised or closed down. The state has massively encouraged investment through subsidies. It is particularly noteworthy that the general living conditions in Eastern Germany today are similar to those in the West. The reconstruction of the East has achieved what could be achieved.
