| Summary: | For centuries ignored or wrongly identified as a chapiter or part of a pillory, it is possible that the carved stone piece stored in the municipal museum of Tavira (Palácio da Galeria) – so far only identified with the code MMT228 – is actually an element of a vanished medieval stone cross. Probably executed in the Algarve region in the fifteenth century, one of the periods of greatest prosperity of the village, this piece was originally placed in an urban privileged space, possibly in one of the village entries, or perhaps near the ancient convent of Saint Francis. |
