These inhibitors function primarily by blocking the reabsorption of glucose in the kidneys, specifically targeting the SGLT2 proteins in the proximal convoluted tubules. This inhibition results in the reduction of blood glucose levels through increased glucose excretion in the urine. Recent studies have identified SGLT2 expression in various cancer types, suggesting that SGLT2 inhibition can potentially suppress tumor growth. This article provides a comprehensive review of the role of SGLT2 in tumorigenesis and tumor progression, and explores the underlying mechanisms and potential therapeutic applications of SGLT2 inhibitors as anticancer agents. Keywords: SGLT2 inhibitors, SGLT2, cancer, mechanism
