description Often considered a flat surface with no depth, the digital interface of a website lies at the junction of various spaces. Awareness of the depth and thickness of a website makes it possible to develop a three-dimensional way of thinking about interfaces, to go beyond the overly blunt contrast between what is visible and what is not, and to envisage a permeability that promotes a better understanding of content that can be questioned and “explored”. The addition of geolocation data to the Collecta.fr website dedicated to the historical collection of François-Roger de Gaignières (1642-1715) offered an opportunity to expand the existing site and further reveal the internal structure of the collection and information. This article traces the development of the Collecta.fr website and is accompanied by a discussion of the issues of the materiality of media (Katherine Hayles) and architecture, the outcropping of data (Aldo Rossi), and navigation (Gilles Deleuze and Félix Guattari; Lucius Burckhardt).
