Ovid Underwater: Environmental Dialectics at Achelous’ Banquet
Published 2024-12-01“…This function of narrative as a technique for controlling the environment is explored through close readings of the interlocking tales told at Achelous banquet. The themes of these stories, sacrifice, nurture, and reproduction, as mythical evocations of distinctively human strategies of survival, help anchor narrative itself as a means of exposing and mediating the alterity of the cosmos and suggest a model for understanding Ovid’s own act of narration in political terms.…”

Spinozism, Kabbalism, and Idealism from Johann Georg Wachter to Moses Mendelssohn
Published 2021-08-01“…Here, I follow this history further back than and focus on one earlier idealist reading, indeed perhaps the mother of them all. It can be found in the Elucidarius cabalisticus, sive reconditae Hebraeorum philosophiae brevis et succincta recensio by Johann Georg Wachter, a kabbalist interpretation of Spinoza published in 1706. …”

Characteristics, location, and usage patterns of resting burrows in Chinese pangolins: Insights from radio-telemetry tracking
Published 2025-01-01“…To conclude the findings:1) burrow count, while useful for identifying pangolin presence, is not a suitable quantitative indicator of population density. 2) Most resting burrows had compacted soil at the entrance, which could be mistaken for old or inactive burrows in other studies. 3) Resting burrows function as permanent structures that are reused across seasons instead of seasonal adaptations. 4) Preserving low-disturbance habitats will be critical for ensuring sufficient resting burrow sites, thereby supporting the long-term viability of pangolin populations. …”

Effects of Germination of Suaeda Salsa Seeds After Treating with Plant Hormones
Published 2021-01-01“…In order to explore the key technical parameters of treating suaeda salsa seeds with plant hormone for rapid germination, and further enrich the method of rapidly recovering degraded coastal suaeda salsa wetland, this paper analyzes the effects of soaking suaeda salsa seeds in gibberellic acid (GA),indole acetic acid (IAA) and Kinetin (KT) solutions on the seed germination index by setting up different concentrations and treatment time in water culture experiment. The results show that:The optimal treatment conditions for the three plant hormones were 100 mg/L GA solution for 36 h,1.5 mg/L IAA solution for 12h,and 10 mg/L KT solution for 12 h respectively.Compared with the control, under the optimal pretreatment conditions of plant hormones, the germination percentage and germination rate of suaeda salsa seeds increased by 20.00% and 79.60%,17.65% and 136.84%,9.80% and 55.79%,respectively.Therefore,treating suaeda salsa seeds in GA,IAA and KT solutions under appropriate conditions can significantly increase their germination percentage and germination rate.…”
