Policy and Culture: From Machiavelli’s Political Philosophy to Kipling’s Political Prophecies by K. M. Dolgov, E. I. Starikova

    Published 2015-12-01
“…It is no coincidence that N.Machiavelli develops his new political philosophy aiming not only to create the strong unitary state, but also to overcome this "dirty" policy at least to a certain extent. Therefore, describing the mechanism of the "dirty" policy that opposes high culture, N.Machiavelli introduces a new political philosophy which should be based on the highest ideals and values. …”

Marie Corelli, Wormwood, and the Diversity of Decadence by Jessica DeCoux

    Published 2011-11-01
“…Indeed, Corelli’s novel Wormwood is generally read as an anti-Decadent creed, or at the very least a novel which disingenuously castigates Decadence while titillating readers with themes and tropes “co-opted” from works of that genre. In fact, Wormwood is so often read in these terms because it eludes easy interpretation, a quality that marks it as a distinctly Decadent text. …”

Survival analysis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma based on the ratio of platelet count to spleen diameter by Huiwen Yan, Dongdong Zhou, Dongdong Zhou, Xiaoli Liu, Peng Wang, Tingting Jiang, Zhiyun Yang

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Platelet count/spleen diameter ratio (PSL) with a cut-off value of 909 can predict the presence of esophagogastric varices and thus portal hypertension, which is also an independent risk factor for early recurrence and late recurrence of hepatocellular carcinoma after resection. Therefore, the effect of PSL on the overall survival (OS) of patients with HCC is necessary. …”

Analysis of Influencing Factors on Splitting Characteristics of Hydraulic Asphalt Concrete by ZHANG Yang

    Published 2021-01-01
“…Mix ratio design and analysis of asphalt concrete are an important way to study its physical and mechanical properties. This paper performs 16 sets of tests with 3 factors and 4 levels according to the orthogonal test design theory, and discusses the influence of gradation index, filler amount and asphalt content on the splitting strength and splitting displacement by the range and variance analysis method to obtain the optimum combination of mix parameters, spatializes the mix ratio parameters, and analyzes the distribution law of asphalt concrete splitting characteristics. The test results show that:The influence of the mix parameters on the splitting strength of asphalt concrete decreases in order of gradation index, filler amount and asphalt content, while contrary to the splitting displacement. In terms of strength, the gradation index is considered preferentially for the splitting strength of asphalt concrete;while from the perspective of stiffness, the asphalt content is preferential for that. When selecting asphalt concrete as an impermeable body in engineering parts where hydraulic fracturing may exist, with full consideration to the stress state, the suitable mix ratio should be used.…”
