Spatiotemporal Change Detection of Ecological Quality and the Associated Influencing Factors in Yuzhou Mining Area With RSEIFE by Jiao Pan, Ziwei Wang, Tao Chen, Kun Jia, Antonio Plaza

    Published 2025-01-01
“…The method exploited Savitzky-Golay filtering (to smooth the four ecological index data), and the surface ecological effects of resource-based cities were evaluated using the entropy weight method and moving window technique. Our key findings include: 1) the filtered ecological index time series curves effectively reduce the data noise and make the data set smoother; 2) during mining time series monitoring, the mean RSEIFE values for five years were 0.56, 0.41, 0.44, 0.58, and 0.67, demonstrating an initial deterioration, subsequently followed by an enhancement in the ecological environmental condition; 3) the dominant index impacting the ecological environment of the open-pit mine are land surface temperature, and normalized difference built-up and bareness index; 4) while open-pit mining activities adversely affect the ecological environment, restoration efforts significantly improve conditions in both the open-pit and its surrounding areas. …”

Exploring the factors behind the discrepancy between two-dimensional and three-dimensional indicators of greenspace exposure by Lixian Su, Zihan Kan, Mei-Po Kwan

    Published 2025-06-01
“…This study addresses this gap by explaining the inconsistent spatial patterns between the NDVI and greenspace volume, identifying landscape-related factors associated with these inconsistencies, and elucidating the implications of differences between the NDVI and volume on greenspace exposure measurement. We curated a set of landscape factors based on prior research and used an explainable machine learning technique to explore the associations between 2D and 3D greenspace indicators and these landscape elements. …”

Time of the week AutoRegressive eXogenous (TOW-ARX) model to predict thermal consumption in a large commercial mall by Iñigo Lopez-Villamor, Olaia Eguiarte, Beñat Arregi, Roberto Garay-Martinez, Antonio Garrido-Marijuan

    Published 2024-10-01
“…In order to discard the risk of model overfitting, cross validation is applied using the k-fold technique. The performance of the TOW-ARX model is compared with a set of different models: a reduced version of the model where similar segments are clustered using the k-means method (R-TOW-ARX), a general ARX model, a linear regression steady-state TOW model (TOW-LR), a version of the latter reduced through clustering (R-TOW-LR), and a general multiple linear regression model (LR). …”
