Reasons and solutions for the disconnect between transfusion medicine theory and clinical practice
Published 2025-01-01“…Upon reviewing contemporary theories in transfusion medicine, one finds that some terms, norms, standards, papers and monographs still harbor seemingly plausible yet incorrect concepts and guidelines. This often stems from a lack of understanding of the discipline’s research history, insufficient knowledge accumulation, a deficit in independent and rational thinking, and most importantly, a lack of rigorous logical thought. …”

Measurable residual disease as predictor of post–day +100 relapses after allografting in adult AML
Published 2025-02-01“…Abstract: Measurable residual disease (MRD) by multiparametric flow cytometry (MFC) before allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) identifies patients at high risk of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) relapse, often occurring early after allografting. To examine the role of MFC MRD testing to predict later relapses, we examined 935 adults with AML or myelodysplastic neoplasm/AML transplanted in first or second morphologic remission who underwent bone marrow restaging studies between day 70 and 100 after HCT and were alive and without relapse by day +100. …”

Electroforming-based micro-texturing: Advancements for surface engineering in EDM
Published 2025-02-01“…These electrodes are of particular interest in die sinking EDM (SEDM) applications, where high precision in geometry and microtextures is required, and alternative manufacturing technologies often struggle to meet these demands. This study presents the development of microtextured electrodes for sinking EDM processes (SEDM), fabricated by mask stereolithography (MSLA) and copper electroforming. …”

Soluble and cell-based markers of immune checkpoint inhibitor-associated nephritis
Published 2023-01-01“…The downstream impact of T cell activation in the affected kidney was investigated using archived biopsy samples to evaluate the gene expression of IL2RA, IL-2 signaling, and T cell receptor signaling in patients with ICI-nephritis compared with other causes of drug-induced nephritis, acute tubular injury, and histologically normal controls. Results sIL-2R level in peripheral blood was significantly higher in patients with ICI-nephritis (N=24) (median 2.5-fold upper limit of normal (ULN), IQR 1.9–3.3), compared with ICI-treated controls (N=10) (median 0.8-fold ULN, IQR 0.5–0.9, p<0.001) and hemodynamic AKI controls (N=6) (median 0.9-fold-ULN, IQR 0.7–1.1, p=0.008). A sIL-2R cut-off point of 1.75-fold ULN was highly diagnostic of ICI-nephritis (area under the curve >96%) when compared with either ICI-treated or hemodynamic AKI controls. …”
