Preliminary study on the time-correlation changes in brain neurotransmitters of mice exposed to mushroom toxin ibotenic acid
Published 2025-06-01“…Ibotenic acid is identified as the primary neurotoxin associated with this form of poisoning; however, the underlying mechanisms of its neurotoxicity remain poorly understood.ObjectiveThis study aims to systematically evaluate the effects of ibotenic acid exposure across three consecutive key time points, from intoxication to recovery, on neurotransmitters related to the GABA/Glutamic-Acid, dopaminergic, serotonergic, and cholinergic systems in five brain regions: the cerebral cortex, hippocampus, striatum, brain stem, and cerebellum.MethodsThrough behavioral tests, we assessed the effects of ibotenic acid exposure on voluntary activities and learning and memory functions in mice. Additionally, we analyzed the changes in neurotransmitter concentrations across different brain regions using targeted metabolomics.ResultsBehavioral results indicated that the total movement distance and speed in the open field test were significantly reduced, while the resting time was prolonged in the ibotenic acid-exposed group (P < 0.0001). …”

Protocol of a randomized, single-blind, controlled trial of an 18-month, home-based, high-intensity, exercise intervention in older, cognitively unimpaired APOE ε4 carriers
Published 2025-05-01“…Secondary outcomes include comprehensive neurocognitive and physical function test batteries, MRI scans including structural and functional connectivity measures, and blood-based biomarkers.HypothesesOver an 18-month interval, physically inactive ε4 carriers who engage in high-intensity aerobic exercise will demonstrate less cognitive decline and hippocampal atrophy than physically inactive ε4 carriers who did not participate in a formal exercise program.ConclusionSuccessful demonstration of a scalable, home-based, high-intensity aerobic exercise intervention in altering the trajectory of AD pathophysiology and its effects on cognitive functioning will transform AD treatment, improve patient outcomes and quality of life, and reduce healthcare costs.…”

Population dynamics and monitoring applied to decision-making
Published 2024-10-01“…Second, certain outcomes are assigned value, via an objective or utility function. Both of these features involve factors beyond the usual consideration of ecological modeling; the first implies the presence of one or more “decision makers”, and the second characterizes the societal preferences of each possible outcome resulting from a prospective decision. …”
