Resonant Excitation of Terahertz Surface Plasmons in Subwavelength Metal Holes
Published 2007-01-01“…The effects of hole shape, hole dimensions, dielectric function of metals, polarization dependence, and array film thickness on resonant terahertz transmission in metal arrays were investigated by the state-of-the-art terahertz time-domain spectroscopy. In particular, extraordinary terahertz transmission was demonstrated in arrays of subwavelength holes made even from Pb, a generally poor metal, and having thickness of only one-third of skin depth. …”

Pattern Formation in a Cross-Diffusive Holling-Tanner Model
Published 2012-01-01“…We present a theoretical analysis of the processes of pattern formation that involves organisms distribution and their interaction of spatially distributed population with self- as well as cross-diffusion in a Holling-Tanner predator-prey model; the sufficient conditions for the Turing instability with zero-flux boundary conditions are obtained; Hopf and Turing bifurcation in a spatial domain is presented, too. Furthermore, we present novel numerical evidence of time evolution of patterns controlled by self- as well as cross-diffusion in the model, and find that the model dynamics exhibits a cross-diffusion controlled formation growth not only to spots, but also to strips, holes, and stripes-spots replication. …”

On the Parametric Stokes Phenomenon for Solutions of Singularly Perturbed Linear Partial Differential Equations
Published 2012-01-01“…We study a family of singularly perturbed linear partial differential equations with irregular type in the complex domain. In a previous work, Malek (2012), we have given sufficient conditions under which the Borel transform of a formal solution to the above mentioned equation with respect to the perturbation parameter converges near the origin in and can be extended on a finite number of unbounded sectors with small opening and bisecting directions, say , for some integer . …”

Hungarian Emerging
Published 2025-01-01“…One prediction is that we expect languages to have regularities with widely differing effect – both general patterns and subpatterns that exist but only in a narrow domain. We test this hypothesis against Hungarian vowel harmony, a harmony pattern that is often described as involving both [back] harmony and [round] harmony, despite the fact that the language has nonharmonic suffixes, suffixes with limited harmony, disharmony, antiharmony, and both transparency and opacity. …”

Theoretical and Numerical Analysis of Coupled Axial-Torsional Nonlinear Vibration of Drill Strings
Published 2021-01-01“…Based on a lumped parameter model with two degrees of freedom, the periodic response of the coupled axial-torsional nonlinear vibration of drill strings is studied by HB-AFT (harmonic balance and alternating frequency/time domain) method and numerical simulations. The amplitude-frequency characteristic curves of axial relative displacement and torsional relative angular velocity are given to reveal the mechanism of bit bounce and stick-slip motion. …”
