Housing for a Lonely Generation by Marija Maric

    Published 2023-09-01
“…Organised around the advertising language for three co-living platforms—WeLive, Quarters (now Habyt), and the Collective—this essay frames the corporate housing model as inseparable from the digital media infrastructures that distribute its contents. Building, on one side, upon the existing research in the domain of housing, real estate, and media, and on the other, on the performative reading of the real estate advertisements of the contemporary co-living projects, it positions this housing typology as a genuine product of the 'real-estate-media complex,' referring to the close entanglements of speculative property markets, media infrastructures, and digital technologies in commodification of housing.…”

The Protection of the Defendant’s Rights in Criminal Trial by Default — From the Perspective of Due Process by Yangyang Bu

    Published 2023-03-01
“…Based on the criminal procedure system and even the reform of the entire judicial system, the discussion on the criminal trial in absentia should not be confined to the basic frame of normal bench trial paradigm by due process, the possible adverse consequences should not be taken as the inevitable argument for criticizing the system, but rather a rational and neutral position, return to the original point of the system, seek the basic principles involved in the criminal trial in absentia, and respond to many doubts that the absent defendant’s rights are bound to fall, and thinking dialectically on this basis, from the two dimensions of system function, value presetting and perfection of existing specifications, deduces and sums up the internal logic of this system in its normative construction, system operation and internal and external harmony, focusing on strengthening the rights protection of the defendant at the times.…”

Variation Characteristics and Influencing Factors of Reference Crop Evapotranspiration in Guangdong Province under Climate Change by HUANG Song, DAI Jiaqi, ZHAO Baoshan, LIU Na, LI Hui, CHU Huaping

    Published 2023-01-01
“…To explore the temporal and spatial variation characteristics of reference crop evapotranspiration (ET0) in Guangdong Province under climate change and its influencing factors, based on the surface observation data of 37 meteorological stations in Guangdong Province during 1980—2020,the FAO-56 Penman-Monteith method was applied to calculate the daily ET0 of each meteorological station. In addition, this research systematically analyzed the temporal and spatial variation characteristics of ET0 in Guangdong Province and quantitatively studied the influence degree of various meteorological factors on ET0 by using sensitivity and contribution rate analysis methods. The results show that in terms of time scale, the annual average ET0 in Guangdong Province is 1 150 mm,and it shows a significant increasing trend at the rate of 14.84 mm/10a.In terms of spatial scale,ET0 in Guangdong Province shows an increasing trend from north to south, with a variation range of 1 069~1 235 mm.ET0 is more sensitive to relative humidity and temperature than sunshine duration and wind speed. The contribution rate analysis shows that temperature is the dominant factor for ET0 variation in Guangdong Province, followed by sunshine duration, relative humidity, and wind speed. The potential increase in temperature combined with the decrease in relative humidity can lead to higher ET0 and drought events in the future. This study can provide a scientific basis for water resources planning and agricultural irrigation management in Guangdong Province.…”
