Formation pathways, ecosystem functions, and the impacts of land use and environmental stressors on soil aggregates
Published 2025-06-01“…Subsequently, the effects of land use and/or changes in land use in the delivery of these functions were examined. It is established that soil aggregates play a pivotal role in five environmental and ecosystem functions within the soil, including: (i) the provision of habitat for soil microorganisms by regulating niche formation and predation; (ii) the long-term sequestration of soil organic carbon (SOC) within microaggregates, preserved in macroaggregates; (iii) the regulation of nutrient exchange at the soil‒plant‒water‒atmosphere interface; (iv) the immobilisation of pollutants such heavy metal; and (v) the regulation of water movement in the soil. …”

Gut microbiome and metabolome profiling in coal workers’ pneumoconiosis: potential links to pulmonary function
Published 2024-11-01“…After adjusting for age using multifactorial linear regression analysis (MaAsLin2), the distinct gut microbiome profile in CWP patients revealed an increased presence of pro-inflammatory microorganisms such as Klebsiella and Haemophilus. Furthermore, in CWP patients, alterations in gut microbiota—particularly reduced α-diversity and changes in microbial composition—were significantly correlated with impaired pulmonary function, a relationship not observed in DEW. …”

Repurposing Olive Oil Mill Wastewater into a Valuable Ingredient for Functional Bread Production
Published 2025-05-01“…Untreated olive oil mill wastewater (OOMW) from conventionally farmed olives was used in bread production to create a new functional product. Two types of bread were developed with 50% OOMW (EXP-1) and 100% OOMW (EXP-2) replacing water. …”

High-throughput functional analysis provides novel insight into type VII secretion in Staphylococcus aureus
Published 2024-08-01“…Successful colonization by the opportunistic pathogen Staphylococcus aureus depends on its ability to interact with other microorganisms. Staphylococcus aureus strains harbour a T7b subtype of type VII secretion system (T7SSb), a protein secretion system found in a wide variety of Bacillota, which functions in bacterial antagonism and virulence. …”
