Progress in the Surface Protection Technology of Aerospace Ultra-High Strength Steel by YANG Cheng, YE Bing, MA Yue, ZHANG Maoda, AN Mingdong, GAO Qiang, ZHOU Fei

    Published 2024-10-01
“…Ultra-high strength steel has both high strength and high toughness, making it an important load-bearing component in the aerospace industry, and thus it has a wide range of applications in aircraft landing gear, main beams, transmission components, load-bearing bolts, and other fields.Due to its frequent exposure to marine atmospheric environments during use, corrosion is quite severe.Through surface protection, the corrosion resistance, wear resistance and other properties of ultra-high-strength steel could be improved, which further extended the service life of the relevant parts.Herein, for the current commonly used several surface protection technologies (thermal spraying, vacuum plating, electroplating, chemical plating, surface tissue transformation, laser cladding, ion implantation, etc.), this paper reviewed the impact of these surface protection methods on different ultra-high strength steels in terms of abrasion, corrosion resistance, hydrogen embrittlement, fatigue and other aspects.Besides, the advantages and disadvantages of these methods were analyzed, and the prospects were made for its future development direction.…”
