Anomalous hypothalamic responses to humor in cataplexy. by Allan L Reiss, Fumiko Hoeft, Adam S Tenforde, Wynne Chen, Dean Mobbs, Emmanuel J Mignot

    Published 2008-05-01
“…Behavioral results showed that participants with cataplexy rated significantly fewer humorous cartoons as funny compared to controls. Concurrent fMRI showed that patients, when compared to controls and in the absence of overt cataplexy symptoms, showed pronounced activity in the emotional network including the ventral striatum and hypothalamus while viewing humorous versus non-humorous cartoons. …”

Carer administration of as-needed subcutaneous medication for breakthrough symptoms in people dying at home: the CARiAD feasibility RCT by Zoë Hoare, Clare Wilkinson, Dyfrig A Hughes, Anthony Byrne, Annmarie Nelson, Julia Hiscock, Bee Wee, Marlise Poolman, Annie Hendry, Stella Wright, Paul Perkins, Anne Parkinson, Emily Holmes, Liz Reymond, Betty Foster, Julie O’Connor, Penney Lewis, Nia Goulden, Rossella Roberts, Sian Roberts

    Published 2025-06-01
“…Objectives To determine if carer administration of as-needed subcutaneous medication for common breakthrough symptoms in people dying at home is feasible and acceptable in the UK, and if it would be feasible to test this intervention in a future definitive randomised controlled trial.Design We conducted a two-arm, parallel-group, individually randomised, open pilot trial of the intervention versus usual care, with a 1:1 allocation ratio, using convergent mixed methods.Setting Home-based care without 24/7 paid care provision, in three UK sites.Participants Participants were dyads of adult patients and carers: patients in the last weeks of their life who wished to die at home and lay carers who were willing to be trained to give subcutaneous medication. …”

Efficient Prediction of Shallow-Water Acoustic Transmission Loss Using a Hybrid Variational Autoencoder–Flow Framework by Bolin Su, Haozhong Wang, Xingyu Zhu, Penghua Song, Xiaolei Li

    Published 2025-07-01
“…The VAE network is employed to learn latent representations of TL data on a low-dimensional manifold, while the Flow network is additionally used to establish a bijective mapping between the latent variables and underwater physical parameters, thereby enhancing the controllability of the generation process. Combining the trained normalizing flow with the VAE decoder could establish an end-to-end mapping from SSPs to TL. …”

Clinical characteristic, diagnosis and effectiveness of treatment of tuberculosis in HIV-infected patients in the Saratov region by T. I. Morozova, T. Yu. Salina

    Published 2016-04-01
“…Efficiency a course of treatment of ТВ which was completed in 2014 year amounted to 41,5% and was higher in the group of patients in which treatment with anti-tuberculosis therapy is used antiretroviral therapy (ARVT) – 49,3% versus 30,9% without ARVT, p = 0,0416. It was found increase of CD4 cell counts after treatment in patients TB/HIV, which, together with anti-tuberculosis therapy received ARVT 301 ± 45 cells/microliter vs. 202,3 ± 32 cells/microliter in patients without ARVT, p=0,0416.Conclusion: determined that TB in patients with HIV infection characterized by severe course of the process with low efficiency of treatment and high MDR, which requires the strengthening of measures to control the spread of TB in these patients.…”
