Sur quelques films “sylphiques”
Published 2024-10-01“…In the context of atmosphere studies, it seems of the utmost interest to examine - both technically and aesthetically - the more or less invisible active forces in the air around us, and particularly the different ways in which these forces can be made explicit. Based on the study of two contemporary photochemical experimental films - Zillertal by Jürgen Reble (1991/1997), sound of a million insects, light of a thousand stars by Tomonari Nishikawa (2014) - and a documentary from the 1980s - Chernobyl, A Chronicle of Difficult Weeks by Ukrainian filmmaker Vladimir Shevchenko (1986) -, which we define as “sylphic”, in reference to the writings of the alchemist Paracelsus, for their material capacity to make visible in striking ways the “chaos” or “vital space” of the atmospheres with which they come into contact, we propose to explore the ways in which the notion of atmosphere is becoming central to new theoretical approaches to media.…”

Generalized 2D polynomial chaotic map and its application in information transmission
Published 2022-09-01“…Existing chaotic systems have many defects in engineering applications, such as discontinuous chaotic parameter range, weak chaos, uneven output of chaotic sequences and dynamic degradation. Therefore, a generalized 2D polynomial chaotic mapping model was proposed.By setting different control parameters and the highest degree of polynomial, a series of 2D robust chaotic maps with specific Lyapunov exponent could be obtained. In order to avoid the output of the second state equation collapsing to a fixed value, a random disturbance variable which did not change with time was introduced. Finally, a numerical example was given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed model, and the dynamic analysis showed that the mapping has complex dynamic behavior. Finally, the system was applied to information transmission technology.Compared with other chaotic maps, the system can achieve lower bit error rate, which indicates that the chaotic map is more suitable for chaotic information transmission.…”

Continuous noise covert transmission scheme based on QCSK
Published 2022-04-01“…The existing embedded scheme requires far lower transmission power of the covert system than that of the host system, and thus decreasing the reliability of covert transmission. To figure out the above limitations, a continuous noise covert communication scheme based on quadrature chaos shift keying (QCSK) was proposed. The QCSK signal containing covert information and artificial noise were transmitted alternately, and the illegal energy detection was effectively resisted by the continuity of noise which has strong concealment in both time and frequency domains.Furthermore, extremely low power was not required to meet the demand of convert communication in QCSK, whereas allowing the increase of transmit power under the condition that the performance of the host system to improve the performance of covert transmission.Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the bit error rate (BER) of covert transmission brings two orders of magnitude improvement compared with the existing scheme at BER=1×10-7 for host system.…”
