Study on Water Repellency Modification of Strongly Expansive Soil by DING Junhao, CHAI Linchun, ZHANG Jianjun

    Published 2022-01-01
“…To study the inhibition effect of water-repellent sand on the expansion rate of expansive soil, this study takes the strongly expansive soil of weathered slopes as an example and adds octadecylamine into sand as water repellent agents to improve the expansive soil. The expansion rate tests are carried out on the ring-knife samples with 27 times of compaction, and the expansion and contraction characteristics of modified expansive soil under the optimal water content are revealed. The results indicate that the natural soil changes from hydrophilic to water-repellent upon the addition of water-repellent sand into expansive soil, and the water repellency is significantly enhanced. The optimal water content of the five modified expansive soils decreases with the increase in water repellency, and the expansion rate is reduced from 35% to 9%,which means the expansion characteristics are greatly inhibited. It is feasible to restrain the expansion and seepage of strongly expansive soil by adding water-repellent sand (octadecylamine content of 0.04%).…”

Low-complexity despreading scheme with repetition code for wireless body area networks by Yu CHI, Lan CHEN, Chao LV

    Published 2015-08-01
“…To improve the reliability of data transmission and reduce the complexity of the narrow band receiver for wireless body area networks(WBAN),spreading with repetition code is used in IEEE 802.15.6 standard.A despreading structure in which the metrics of reliability were calculated selectively according to the dynamic threshold was designed.Combined with hard decision, hard threshold-combine and hard threshold-delete despreading methods by simplifying maximal ratio combining and generalized minimum distance principle respectively were proposed, which had low complexity and near-optimal performance. The theoretical analysis and simulation results show that compared to despreading based on maximum likelihood method, the spreading gain of the proposed methods is close to the theoretical value and the computational complexity can be reduced by 86% at most under high SNR circumstances.…”
