Joint Operation of Reservoir Group in Longxi River Basin Considering Agricultural Water Demand by CHEN Si, XU Wei, ZHAO Siqi, YIN Shiming, YANG Yi

    Published 2023-01-01
“…Water resources in small- and medium-sized basins are often not reasonably allocated, and the utilization rate of water resources is not high.In this paper, five reservoirs in the Longxi River Basin are taken as an example.Firstly, the hydrological model is constructed, and the parameters of the model are calibrated and verified by the 12-year measured runoff of Liujiantan Hydrological Station. The NSE can reach 0.89,the R2 is 0.87,and the relative error (RE) is 5.4 %.The inflow process to the reservoir interval is obtained.Secondly, three representative crops of corn, rice, and sweet potato in the basin are selected to construct the reservoir irrigation water demand model. The crop coefficient method and Penman-Monteith formula are adopted to calculate the crop water demand and the USDA-SCS method was used to calculate the effective precipitation. Finally, the joint and single reservoir operation models of the Longxihe reservoir group to maximize the comprehensive water supply and power generation are built, and the POA solution and fuzzy analytic hierarchy process are utilized to optimize the scheme. The results show that the joint operation is more capable to balance the distribution of water resources between upstream and downstream reservoirs, improve the power generation efficiency and water supply guarantee rate, and reduce the amount of abandoned water than the single reservoir operation.…”

Examining the Colonial Legacies of the Hunterian’s Mineralogical and Petrological Collection: New Perspectives on Geoscience Collections by Erika Anderson

    Published 2024-12-01
“… The origin of the Hunterian Museum and Art Gallery’s mineralogical and petrological collection can be traced back to Sir William Hunter’s bequest of his collections to the University of Glasgow upon his death in 1783. Examination of the collection’s colonial legacies is only in its nascent stages, reflecting that the scrutiny of colonial legacies is still in its infancy in geoscience museums. …”

Study on Spatiotemporal Distribution Characteristics of Rainfall Erosivity in “Three-Lake” Basin of Central Yunnan by YANG Wenchun, GU Guihua, ZHU Weibing, HUO Shouhua

    Published 2022-01-01
“…This study is conducted to explore the influence of rainfall on the characteristics of soil erosion in the “three-lake” basin of Fuxian Lake,Xingyun Lake, and Qilu Lake in central Yunnan. On the basis of the daily rainfall observation data of four precipitation stations in the basin from 1992 to 2020,namely,the Liangwanghe,Haikou,Chaershan, and Shagouzui Stations, the daily rainfall erosivity model is employed to calculate rainfall erosivity. Then, its temporal variation characteristics are analyzed with the M-K method, and the spatial changing laws of rainfall and rainfall erosivity are investigated by the Kriging interpolation method for spatial interpolation. The results are as follows:From 1992 to 2020,the average annual rainfall in the “three-lake” basin is 907.6 mm,and the average annual rainfall erosivity is 3 088~4 172 MJ·mm/(hm2·h);the variation coefficient of annual rainfall erosivity is between 0.25 and 0.32,and the number of days with erosive rainfall at each station is 686~759.There is a good correlation between annual rainfall and annual rainfall erosivity, and the annual rainfall erosivity in the basin fluctuates on the whole, with no significant increasing trend and no abrupt change. The rainfall erosivity varies significantly within the year, with that in summer accounting for 61.4% and that in the flood season accounting for 90.5% of the year, and the variation of rainfall erosivity is topped by summer, followed by autumn, spring, and winter. The spatial distribution trend of average annual rainfall erosivity in the basin is consistent with the annual rainfall distribution trend, high in the north and low in the south. The rainfall erosivity decreases gradually from north to south in terms of years, flood seasons, summer, and autumn, while in terms of non-flood seasons, spring, and winter, rainfall erosivity decreases from northeast to southwest. The research results can provide a scientific basis for water and soil conservation and ecological protection of lakes in the basin of plateau lakes in central Yunnan.…”

Study on Hydrological Prediction of Qingshui River Basin Based on PRECIS Regional Climate Model by MA Wenjing, PAN Zhangrong, LIU Zhenlu

    Published 2023-01-01
“…Frequent occurrences of extreme weather will lead to unstable changes in rivers' hydrological conditions. The SWAT hydrological model is used to simulate and verify the runoff at the Quanyanshan hydrometric station in Qingshui River, and then the runoff change at the Quanyanshan station in the Qingshui River Basin by the middle and end of the 21st century is simulated based on the PRECIS regional climate model. The results show that by the middle and end of the 21st century, with the increase in temperature and the decrease in rainfall, the runoff volume of the Qingshui River will drop.Specifically,by the middle of the 21st century, the simulated runoff volumes are basically the same under two scenarios. However,by the end of the 21st century, the simulated runoff volume is larger than that under the SSP4.5 scenario due to the higher predicted rainfall under the SSP8.5 scenario.…”
