The interaction of tPA with NMDAR1 drives neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration in α-synuclein-mediated neurotoxicity by Daniel Torrente, Enming J. Su, Alí Francisco Citalán-Madrid, Gerald P. Schielke, Daniel Magaoay, Mark Warnock, Tamara Stevenson, Kris Mann, Flavie Lesept, Nathalie Delétage, Manuel Blanc, Erin H. Norris, Denis Vivien, Daniel A. Lawrence

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Moreover, overexpression of proteolytically inactive tPA in tPA Ala-BAC mice leads to increased neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration compared to mice expressing normal levels of tPA, suggesting a tPA dose response. Finally, treatment of mice with glunomab, a neutralizing antibody that selectively blocks tPA binding to the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor-1 (NMDAR1) without affecting NMDAR1 ion channel function, identifies the tPA interaction with NMDAR1 as necessary for tPA-mediated neuroinflammation and neurodegeneration in response to α-synuclein-mediated neurotoxicity. …”

Loose cigarette purchase and adolescent smoking in Indonesia: a mixed-methods study by Vid Adrison, Dian Kusuma, Gea Melinda, Fariza Zahra Kamilah, Syifa Rizki Amelia, Sofwatun Nida

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Students reported the extensive selling of loose cigarettes and such a situation persuaded them to buy tobacco products more frequently, thus spending at least half of their weekly allowance on tobacco products, ranging from 30 000 to 200 000 Indonesian rupiah or equivalent to US$2–13 per week. Finally, our study highlighted that only a few students in this study either had to show their identity card or were denied when purchasing loose cigarettes in informal retailers. Conclusion Our study demonstrates that students purchasing loose cigarettes is significantly associated with non-daily smoking, consuming five or fewer sticks per day, and lower addiction which could be interpreted as smokers in the experimental phase. …”

Identification of the Granule-Bound Starch Synthase (GBSS) Genes Involved in Amylose Biosynthesis in Tartary Buckwheat (<i>Fagopyrum tataricum</i> (L.) Gaertn.) by Juan Huang, Fei Liu, Jieqiong Zhang, Bin Tang, Jiao Deng, Taoxiong Shi, Liwei Zhu, Hongyou Li, Qingfu Chen

    Published 2025-01-01
“…A protein–protein interaction network was constructed and co-expression was analyzed based on the gene expression patterns of the <i>FtGBSSs</i>, and the identified TFs, belonging to bZIP, ERF, bHLH, and MADS-box TF families, were identified within this network, and their expression patterns were significantly correlated to the expression patterns of two seed-specific <i>FtGBSS</i> genes (<i>FtGBSS-3</i> and <i>FtGBSS-5</i>). Finally, <i>FtGBSS1-5</i> was successfully transformed into rice through transgenic manipulation, and the <i>FtGBSS1-5</i> overexpression lines showed an increase in amylose content accompanied by a reduction in amylopectin and total starch contents compared with WT. …”
