Intranasal Testing and Treatment for Staphylococcus aureus With Intravenous Vancomycin and Intranasal Povidone-iodine Prior to Posterior Spinal Fusion: A Retrospective Cohort Study...
Published 2025-02-01“…Key Concepts: (1) The treatment of patients with povidine-iodine (PI) nasal decolonization in a pediatric spinal fusion cohort did not show a decrease in postoperative infections. (2) Elimination of intranasal testing and Staphylococcus aureus treatment in a pediatric spinal fusion cohort results in cost savings and reduces an unpleasant experience for the patient. (3) Increased surgical time during posterior spinal fusion in a pediatric cohort of patient did not lead to an increased rate of surgical site infection (SSI). (4) Across the cohort of pediatric patient undergoing posterior spinal fusion (PSF), the rate of infection for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) patients was 1.3% compared with 8.2% infection rate in patients with neuromuscular scoliosis (NMS). Level of Evidence: Level III…”

Exhaustion of CD8pos central memory regulatory T cell differentiation is involved in renal allograft rejection
Published 2025-01-01“…We were investigating whether changed differentiation of CCR7posCD45RAposCD31pos recent thymic emigrant (RTE) cells via CD45RAnegCD31pos memory (CD31pos memory) cells (pathway 1), via direct proliferation (pathway 2), or via CCR7posCD45RA+CD31neg resting mature naïve (MN) cells (pathway 3) into CD45RAnegCD31neg memory (CD31neg memory) cells affects the CD8pos Treg/Tresp ratio or identifies a CD8pos Treg/Tresp subset that predicts or confirms renal allograft rejection.ResultsWe found that RTE Treg differentiation via pathway 1 was age-independently increased in KTR, who developed graft rejection during the follow-up period, leading to abundant MN Treg and central memory Treg (CM Treg) production and favoring a strongly increased CD8pos Treg/Tresp ratio. …”

Serum calcium and its relationship with immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels in prepartum buffaloes from the Venezuelan humid tropics
Published 2023-11-01“…In contrast, IgG in young females was higher (761.33±21.81 mg/dL) concerning adult buffaloes (735. 83±17.39 mg/dL) with no statistically significant differences (p>0.05) between groups for both variables; however, the correlation test indicated that, in first calving buffaloes, the circulating Ca2+ level is negatively associated (r=-0.56) with IgG concentration, a physiological response that was statistically different (p<0.05) concerning multiparous buffaloes (r=0.83). There is evidence of an association between serum calcium concentration and IgG levels that depends on the number of calvings, possibly because different metabolic pathways for Ca 2+ exchange determine the immune response among the categories of buffaloes included in the study. …”
