L-Citrulline in Neonates: From Bench to Bed Side
Published 2024-12-01“…Detoxification of endogenously produced superoxide radicals is inadequate in preterm infants due to immature antioxidants that leads to the production of peroxynitrite, a reactive oxygen-free radical that is cytotoxic and causes damage to organelles and cellular membranes, further disrupting the coupling of endothelial NO synthase enzyme and the generation of high levels of reactive nitrogen and oxygen species. Animal studies in lipopolysaccharide-induced models of chorioamnionitis and hyperoxia- and inflammation-induced BPD-PH in rodent lung models revealed that L-CIT supplementation significantly mitigated structural changes in the pulmonary vasculature, preserved alveolar growth, and increased vascular endothelial growth factor gene expression, highlighting the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of L-CIT supplementation. …”

Periconceptional Undernutrition in Sheep Affects Adult Phenotype Only in Males
Published 2012-01-01“…At the age of 3-4 years, body composition was assessed by dual-emission X-ray absorptiometry followed by postmortem examination. Compared with N animals, male, but not female, offspring of all UN groups had greater % fat mass (all UN versus N: 9±1 versus 2±1%, P<0.001) and perirenal fat (544±36 versus 222±44 g, P=0.002), and proportionately smaller hearts (4.5±0.1 versus 5.2±0.2 g·kg−1), lungs (9.1±0.2 versus 10.6±0.5 g·kg−1), and adrenals (0.06±0.002 versus 0.08±0.003 g·kg−1). …”

Yiqi Fumai Lyophilized injection protects cardiac contractility in a rat model of heart failure with reduced ejection fraction by modulating SERCA2
Published 2025-02-01“…Background: Yiqi Fumai Lyophilized Injection (YQFM) is a plant-derived preparation that shows protective effects against cardiac dysfunction in both human and animal models. In heart failure (HF), proteins involved in Ca2+ regulation, such as sarcoplasmic/endoplasmic reticulum Ca2+ transporting protein 2 (SERCA2) and cardiac ryanodine receptor 2 (RyR2), are dysfunctional. …”
