The kinetics of maternal and self-developed Streptococcus suis-specific antibodies
Published 2025-02-01“…Abstract Background Streptococcus suis (S. suis) infections are responsible for a large disease burden in piglets during the nursery phase, compromising animal welfare and increasing antibiotic use. The immune gap caused by decreased maternal-derived antibodies (MDA) and insufficient levels or functionality of acquired antibodies in weaned pigs could play a role in the increased susceptibility to S. suis infections. …”

Effects of milk extracellular vesicles from Holstein Friesian and Brown Swiss heat-stressed dairy cows on bovine mammary epithelial cells
Published 2025-02-01“…In vitro results of BME-UV1 cells treated with milk sEV H-HS and B-HS showed an alteration of the cell viability and metabolic activity, by reducing or increasing reactive oxygen species accumulation, and suppressing or increasing the expression of stress-associated genes thereby modulating the response of BME-UV1 according to the animals' thermal condition and the breed. These findings indicated that the small vesicles of Brown milk triggered cellular defense against heat stress, supporting the Brown Swiss breed's thermotolerance.…”

Relationship between the postpartum moment of pregnancy and productivity in water buffalo cows. Preliminary results
Published 2023-11-01“…This retrospective cohort study analyzed 3060 observations from 1459 water buffalo cows from three farms in a similar agroecological environment (Catatumbo and Jesus Maria Semprun counties, Zulia State, Venezuela). A linear mixed model of the mean of parity, lactation length, total milk yield, calving interval, milk yield per day of calving interval, milk yield per year, dry period, and calving interval was built with the postpartum moment of pregnancy (before or after 90 days) as a fixed effect. …”

Comprehensive evaluation of the properties of camel bone gelatin: impact of the duration of pre-treatment and extraction
Published 2024-12-01“… Background: The growing interest in innovative uses for slaughter by-products from camels could generate added value from this multipurpose animal. Aim: This study investigates the extraction of gelatin from camel bones, discusses its potential as a novel protein source and assesses how its properties are affected by the duration of the pre-treatment and extraction processes. …”

Diet-microbiome covariation across three giraffe species in a close-contact zone
Published 2025-04-01“…Because variation in wildlife diets can select for distinct communities of gut bacteria, different foraging choices can have both nutritional effects and other microbially-mediated effects on animal well-being. Despite the proliferation of studies focusing on host-microbiome interactions in recent decades, few prior studies have quantified the level and extent of diet-microbiome linkages in wildlife. …”

Short- and long-term changes in neurological, behavioural, and blood biomarkers following repeated mild traumatic brain injury in rats—potential biological sex-dependent effects
Published 2025-01-01“…To determine long-term changes in tau aggregation as a hallmark of CTE, we used [18F]-florzolotau (florzolotau) autoradiography in brain slices.ResultsBoth short-term weight gain and time-to-right after rmTBI were increased in grouped animals, with male rats showing more prominent changes. …”

Proteomic analysis of murine norovirus-infected Raw 264.7 cells reveals the induction of Ras GTPases
Published 2025-01-01“…The main reason is the lack of appropriate cell culture and animal model systems for HuNV infection. Murine norovirus (abbreviated as MNV) is often used as a proxy for human norovirus when trying to understand the expression profiles left behind by norovirus infection in a host. …”
