Liquid flows induced in a rotating drum with different fill ratios
Published 2025-01-01“…Compared to the condition of a fill ratio of 1.0, in which the liquid inside the drum rotates forming a large-scale (solid-body rotation) organized flow structure, a substantial asymmetric flow structure shows up in partially-filled conditions driven by the imbalance between (i) the momentum diffusion along the radial direction and the centrifugal acceleration, and (ii) the downward (gravitational) flux of the induced flow. …”

Drivers of high rates of carbon burial in a riverine-influenced freshwater marsh in the Long Point Walsingham Priority Place of southern Ontario
Published 2025-01-01“…Since wetland initiation ∼5700 years ago, mean long-term (pre-industrial) rates of SOC accumulation were 24 g C m−2 year−1, and recent rates up to four times higher. We demonstrate that elevated recent rates of SOC accumulation are largely explained by more labile carbon in surficial soils, and are sustained for less than a century before transitioning to slower burial rates of predominantly recalcitrant organic matter. …”

Analysis of environmental health risks from exposure to polyethylene terephthalate microplastics in refilled drinking water
Published 2023-11-01“…If risk quotient > 1, it is considered necessary to carry out risk management.FINDINGS: An average polyethylene terephthalate microplastic concentration of 0.0052 milligram per kilogram per day, an average intake rate of 210 milligrams per kilogram per day, an average exposure frequency of 350 days, an average exposure duration of 30 years, average intake exposure to polyethylene terephthalate microplastics above 0.0004, and an average risk quotient value above 1 were obtained. If they build up in the body, microplastics may have harmful consequences, including organ inflammation, internal or external damage, and chemical alteration of plastics that have already entered the body.CONCLUSION: Some measures of risk management that can be performed are to reduce the concentration of risk agents if the pattern and timing of consumption cannot be changed, reduce the consumption pattern (intake rate) if the concentration of risk agents and the time of consumption cannot be changed, and reduce the contact time if the risk agent concentration and consumption pattern cannot be changed.…”
