Application of Harris Hawks Optimization Algorithm in Optimization of Generalized Nonlinear Muskingum Parameters ——A Case Study of the Luohe River
Published 2024-01-01“…The Muskingum model plays an important role in river flood simulation, and its simulation accuracy relies on the optimal selection of parameters. To address the current challenges in parameter calibration for the Muskingum model, such as complex solution processes and low accuracy, the use of the Harris Hawks optimization (HHO) algorithm was proposed to optimize its parameters.HHO algorithm has a wide range of global search capabilities, with fewer parameters to be adjusted.Taking Luohe River,a tributary of the Yellow River,as the research object, the generalized nonlinear Muskingum model was used to simulate the flood in the Yiyang-Baimasi section of the river. The parameters were optimized by employing the HHO algorithm, particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm, and ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm, respectively. The results show that the generalized nonlinear Muskingum model based on the HHO algorithm achieved high simulation accuracy in the Yiyang-Baimasi section of the Luohe River, with a Min.SSD of 1 237 and the flood peak error (DPO) of only 5,outperforming those obtained through optimization using PSO algorithm and ACO algorithm. The results are suitable for application in flood forecasting in the Yiyang-Baimasi section of the Luohe River.…”

Applicability Analysis of Machine Learning Model in Hydrological Forecasting in Karst Areas
Published 2024-01-01“…For hydrological forecasting in karst areas, existing research mainly uses hydrological models based on physical mechanisms, while rare research focuses on machine learning models. To explore the applicability of machine learning models in karst areas, this paper utilizes the LSTM model and random forest model to simulate the daily runoff and field floods at Tangdian hydrological station, using the Shadian River basin in Yunnan Province as the study area. The modified Xin'anjiang model for karst areas is taken as a reference. The results show that both the machine learning model and the modified Xin'anjiang model have achieved good results in simulating the daily runoff process, with the LSTM model showing better simulation results. In the simulation of floods, the modified Xin'anjiang model achieves Class A forecast accuracy. The machine learning models have better forecast results for the 6-hour forecasting period than the modified Xin'anjiang model, while the forecast results for the 24-hour forecasting period do not meet the accuracy requirements of the forecast operation. The study provides a reference for hydrological forecasting in karst areas by studying the characteristics and forecasting accuracy of two machine learning models and a hydrologic model.…”

Study of Stress and Deformation of High Concrete-Face Rockfill Dam on Steep Slope in Narrow Valley
Published 2022-01-01“…At present,in the finite-element stress and strain calculation of rockfill dams, fixed support is mostly adopted to simulate the connection between the rockfill at the bank slope and the slope. As for a concrete-face rockfill dam (CFRD) in the steep slope area of a narrow valley, the rockfill may slip along the bank slope face,in which case fixed support simulation is inconsistent with the actual situation. To study the influence of the steep slope in a narrow valley on the stress and deformation of a CFRD,we adopt the thickness-free Goodman element to simulate the interface between the steep slope boundary and the rockfill in a narrow valley. The results are compared with those of the conventional method of simulating the rockfill nodes at the bank slope as fixed support. The calculation results show that the deformation and stress distribution of the rockfill body are similar in the two cases, although the deformation is relatively smaller when fixed support treatment is implemented. Moreover, the tensile stress at the bottom of the concrete face in the riverbed section is large in the case of fixed support, which disagrees with the practical situation. After frictional contact is considered, the rockfill can slide along the bank slope, the stress distribution in this area tends to be uniform, and the arch effect is minor. After impoundment, the concrete face at the bank slope is slightly compressed under the action of the hydrostatic pressure, which is in line with the actual situation.…”

Study on generation of turbulence-distorted received signals in OAM optical communications obeying dual Johnson SBdistribution
Published 2020-11-01“…In order to analyze the performance of atmospheric OAM optical communication systems by Monte Carlo method,a method was proposed to simulate turbulence-distorted received signals in OAM optical communications, which possessed the given temporal auto-correlation and obeyed the dual Johnson SBdistribution.A Gaussian random sequence with given temporal auto-correlation was first created by using an auto regression (AR) model, and meanwhile a white noise random sample sequence obeying the dual Johnson SBdistribution was generated. Then the white noise random sample sequence was rearranged according to the statistical rank of the auto-correlated Gaussian random sequence to match the given temporal auto-correlation.By performing the simulation experiments,it was found that the statistical distribution of the simulated signals was in excellent agreement with the dual Johnson SBdistribution, and the temporal auto-correlation of the signals matched the given temporal auto-correlation function. The results demonstrate that the proposed method can be used to simulate time-domain received signals in OAM optical communications impaired by turbulence-induced distortions.…”
