Movement Characteristics of Typhoon Rainstorm-Triggered Debris Flow in Qinglong Gully Based on Massflow Model by XIONG Chaozheng, JI Feng, SHI Yuchuan

    Published 2023-01-01
“…Typhoon Lekima made landfall on August 10,2019,causing a massive typhoon rainstorm-triggered debris flow in Qinglong Gully located in the middle and low mountainous area of southern Anhui. To deeply explore the movement characteristics of the typhoon rainstorm-triggered debris flow, this study identifies the characteristics, formation conditions, and source distribution of Qinglong Gully. On this basis,it builds a high-precision three-dimensional model of the study area to calculate two working conditions of the non-typhoon rainstorm and typhoon rainstorm. In addition,Massflow, the software for surface-process dynamic numerical analysis,is employed for numerical simulation and comparative analysis of debris-flow movement characteristics. The results show that the typhoon rainstorm-triggered debris flow has a faster forward speed compared with the non-typhoon rainstorm-triggered debris flow.It moves to the monitoring points j1—j5 at 600 s,100 s,1500 s,1 600 s,and 1 900 s,respectively, and the front can cause damage to the channels and buildings along the way in a short time.Three main accumulation areas are formed in the outbreak of the debris flow. The maximum accumulation thickness of the typhoon rainstorm-triggered debris flow is 3.08 m,3.80 m,and 7.75 m,and the accumulation area is 36 324.4 m2,3 700.4 m2,and 32 279.5 m2,respectively.The debris flow has the characteristics of a large height and plane range of influence, which is more likely to cause serious life and property damage to engineering buildings and residents.…”

Detecting Attacks and Estimating States of Power Grids from Partial Observations with Machine Learning by Zheng-Meng Zhai, Mohammadamin Moradi, Ying-Cheng Lai

    Published 2025-02-01
“…We articulate a machine-learning framework to address this problem, where the necessity to deal with sequential time-series data with dynamical memories and to avoid a vanishing gradient has led us to choose the long short-term memory (LSTM) architecture. Leveraging the inherent capabilities of LSTM to handle sequential data and capture temporal dependencies, we demonstrate, using three benchmark power-grid networks, that the complete dynamical state of the whole power grid can be faithfully reconstructed and the attack can be accurately localized from limited, partial state observations even in the presence of noise. …”
