Incidence of alexithymia in worsening symptoms and quality of life of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus patients (SLE)
Published 2025-04-01“…Results: Comparisons between the two groups revealed significant differences in the Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) patients, compared to the control group, about the difficulty in identifying feelings and distinguishing them from the bodily sensations accompanying emotional activation, the use of conversion as a defence mechanism and the production of positive symptoms. Moreover, in the same group, the difficulty in identifying emotions was correlated with quality of life, since those who have difficulty identifying emotions have a poorer quality of life.Further analysis regarding the construct of alexithymia, within the patient group alone, revealed a tendency towards somatisation and the use of immature defence mechanisms, including conversion, acting out, projection, dissociation and displacement, highlighting a tendency to act out and project emotional suffering.Furthermore, there appeared to be difficulty in sharing emotional distress with others, indicating a deep sense of insecurity and a need for approval, as well as an incidence in the perception of the state of illness leading to a decline in the quality of life. …”

Protein kinase inhibitors as targeted therapy for glioblastoma: a meta-analysis of randomized controlled clinical trials
Published 2025-02-01“…Upon disease progression, the anti-vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) monoclonal antibody bevacizumab, can be considered.Given the limited efficacy of pharmacological treatments, particularly for the recurrent disease, several molecularly targeted interventions have been explored, such as small-molecule protein kinase inhibitors (PKIs), inhibiting tyrosine kinase growth factor receptors and downstream signaling pathways involved in GBM angiogenesis and infiltrative behavior. This meta-analysis, based on searches in PubMed and Web Of Science, evaluated 12 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examining PKIs in patients with newly diagnosed or recurrent GBM. Pooled analysis of shared clinical outcomes - progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) - revealed a lack of significant improvements with the use of PKIs. …”

Molecular characterization of ST15 carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated in a single patient
Published 2025-01-01“…Conclusions: In this study, KP strains isolated from a single patient exhibited an alternating phenotype of resistant-sensitive-resistant-sensitive to carbapenems. The 9 KP isolates share a high degree of genetic similarity. The plasmid p2-KP3762–1, harbouring the carbapenem resistance gene blaKPC-2, may undergo inter-strain and inter-clone transfer via conjugation in the patient during treatment. …”
