Integrated assessment of carbon dioxide removal portfolios: land, energy, and economic trade-offs for climate policy by Solene Chiquier, Angelo Gurgel, Jennifer Morris, Yen-Heng Henry Chen, Sergey Paltsev

    Published 2025-01-01
“…However, climate mitigation scenarios have primarily focused on bioenergy with carbon capture and storage (BECCS), afforestation/reforestation, and recently direct air carbon capture and storage (DACCS). This narrow focus exposes future climate change mitigation strategies to technological, institutional, and ecological pressures by overlooking the variety of existing CDR options, each with distinct characteristics—including, but not limited to, mitigation potential, cost, co-benefits, and adverse side-effects. …”

Similar Material Simulation Study on Protection Effect of Steeply Inclined Upper Protective Layer Mining with Varying Interlayer Distances by Zhigang Yuan, Yaohua Shao, Zhuohui Zhu

    Published 2019-01-01
“…The results show the following. (1) The proportioning parameters of similar material have strong linear relations with its mechanical properties, and mechanical behaviors of such similar material denote that it can simulate most coal-rock lithologies in coal mine. (2) Both pressure-relief curves and swelling strain curves for protected layer present convex shapes; protection angles at lower excavation boundary are greater than those of upper excavation boundary; with the increase of interlayer distance, the pressure-relief curve evolves from pattern “∩” to pattern “∧” and corresponding pressure-relief region becomes narrower, the center of pressure-relief region tends to transfer to the corresponding center of upper protective layer excavation region, the stress concentration coefficient decreases, the protection angles change little, and the length of the protection region reduces dramatically. (3) The protection region and protection angle calculated based on swelling strain of 3‰ are less than the empirical values based on the dip angle in Provisions, denoting that the method proposed in this study is safer than that in Provisions. …”

Mind the leaf anatomy while taking ground truth with portable chlorophyll meters by Zuzana Lhotáková, Eva Neuwirthová, Markéta Potůčková, Lucie Červená, Lena Hunt, Lucie Kupková, Petr Lukeš, Petya Campbell, Jana Albrechtová

    Published 2025-01-01
“…The take-home message is that portable chlorophyll meters perform well for laminar leaves and grasses with wider leaves, however, their accuracy is limited for conifer needles and narrow grass leaves. Species-specific calibrations are necessary to account for anatomical variations, and adjustments in sampling protocols may be required to improve measurement reliability.…”
