New multiple access and waveform technology for 6G by Hua LI, Shiya HAO, Caihong GONG, Qianqian LI, Xiaoming DAI

    Published 2022-10-01
“…With the explosive growth of Internet devices, the 5G new radio (NR) system faces congestion and high latency issues due to the low access efficiency of traditional orthogonal multiple access (OMA).Besides this, the performance of the orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM)-based system is severely degraded due to the Doppler effect in high-speed scenarios. To meet the low-latency, high-reliability, and massive connection requirements of 6G communication in high-mobility scenarios, firstly, a novel orthogonal time frequency space (OTFS)-based pattern division multiple access (PDMA) scheme, shortened as OTFS-PDMA, was proposed. Then, the system input-output relationship of different types of PDMA codeword allocation schemes in the delay-Doppler (DD) domain was derived. Finally, a low-complexity expectation propagation algorithm (EPA)-based receiver was proposed.Simulation results illustrate that the proposed OTFS-PDMA scheme achieves significant performance gains over the conventional OTFS-OMA scheme. For regular PDMA patterns, the PDMA codeword allocation has a slight impact on the system performance. For irregular patterns, the centralized spreading method outperforms the discrete one.For discrete spreading scheme, the system can achieve better performance by assigning irregular PDMA spread signals along the Doppler direction. In addition, the proposed EPA receiver outperforms its conventional counterparts.…”

Design of hybridly-connected hybrid precoding in millimeter-wave massive MIMO system by Hongyu ZHAO, Hongyan YAO

    Published 2020-03-01
“…In order to improve the spectral efficiency of hybridly-connected hybrid precoding, the optimal hybrid precoding matrix under the ideal conditions was firstly obtained by using the principle of successive interference cancellation (SIC).Secondly, the optimal hybrid precoding matrix was decomposed into the digital precoding matrix and the analog precoding matrix by using the gradient descent theory. Finally, considering the constant modulus constraint condition of the analog precoding matrix, the digital and analog precoding matrices were optimized by using the alternating minimization method aim to maximize the spectral efficiency.Due to the hybridly-connected structure, the proposed hybrid precoding design algorithm is significantly superior to the partially-connected and fully-connected hybrid precoding in terms of the system energy efficiency.Meanwhile, the algorithm does not increase any hardware complexity and only increases a small amount of computation of the hybridly-connected hybrid precoding.Computer simulation results exhibit that the proposed algorithm can improve the system spectral efficiency of the hybridly-connected hybrid precoding, and the upgrade of spectral efficiency is more significant especially in the conditions that the number of radio frequency (RF) links is greater than the number of data streams.Since the sub-blocks are not necessary to satisfy orthogonality conditions, the proposed algorithm is more suitable for practical application than the existing hybridly-connected hybrid precoding.…”

Differentiated services dynamic spectrum access strategy for cognitive wireless mesh network by Rui-fang LI, Quan LIU, Ren-fa LI

    Published 2014-03-01
“…Dynamic spectrum access (DSA) is an important design aspect for cognitive radio network.Common access of multi-type services having different quality of service (QoS) requirements is the important characteristic of cognitive wireless mesh network.Differentiated service (DS) is the key to realize the high efficiency use of spectrum resources and to guarantee the high quality transmission of services. In order to satisfy the demand for multi-type services,a differentiated services dynamic spectrum access strategy was proposed. In this strategy, the unlicensed user traffic was divided into three priority classes. The DSA scheme uses different access mechanisms for the three classes of unlicensed users. The real-time traffic selectes available channel set according to the shortest expected delay to reduce the transmission time and the probability of appearance of licensed user during data transmission process. The general traffic selectes the channel of largest successful transmission probability to avoid spectrum handoff. The theoretical and experimental results show that, when compared with the traditional cognitive networks DSA strategy, the proposed strategy is able to guarantee different QoS for the various services, shorter transmission delay for higher priority services, reducing the probability of transmission interruption and better throughput performance when the vacancy rate of licensed channel is major and heavy network load.…”

Hierarchical resource deployment and sharing strategy in mobile edge computing by Houhao ZHANG, Hanlin LI, Lin GAO

    Published 2021-03-01
“…With the coming of 5G, Internet of things (IoT) has gradually become a reality. However, the function of many terminals is limited to insufficient computing resources in IoT.Mobile edge computing (MEC) is a new network paradigm, where terminals can offload the resource sensitive applications to nearby edge services with rich resources, and thus reduced the operational cost/delay and increased the quality of service (QoS).The resource deployment of MEC was studied, a scenario was considered that the Internet service provider (ISP) paid for deploying the MEC resources, and meanwhile gained revenue from leasing resources to terminals.Note that the deployment of MEC resource is a long-term strategy, while the demands from terminals are time varying. Therefore, it is critical to deploy the MEC resource properly.A hierarchical architecture built upon the 5G radio access network for MEC resource deployment and sharing was proposed, where the MEC resource could be deployed at different network levels.Based on the hierarchical network architecture, the optimal MEC resource deployment problem was formulated and solved as a mixed integer programming problem, aiming at maximizing the ISP’s revenue. And the CVX toolbox in MATLAB was used to solve the problem.Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed solution outperforms the flat resource deployment solution in terms of both the ISP’s revenue and the deployment cost.…”
