Vitamin D concentration and cardiovascular disease in chronic kidney disease by LI Zhan hong, YANG Jihong, ZHANG Yan-jing, WANG Hai-yan, SUN Ying

    Published 2016-01-01
“…Objective To understand the causes of vitamin D deficiency, and to investigate the relationship between 25-hydroxy vitamin D and cardiovascular disease in chronic kidney disease(CKD)patients. Methods Eighty CKD(2-5 ND) patients and 10 health physical examination people were enrolled into this cross-sectional observational study.Serum 25-OH-D3,1,25(OH)2D3and other related clinical biochemical indexes were measured.According to the results of 25-OH-D3,the patients were divided into two groups:vitamin D deficiency group and non-vitamin D deficiency group. The clinical and laboratory examination data were analyzed and compared between the two groups, then the patients were divided into left ventricular hypertrophy(LVH) group and non-LVH group based on left ventricular mass index(LVMI) from ultrasound cardiogram. The possible risk factors for LVH were analyzed and compared between the two groups. Results In 80 CKD patients and 10 health people, the mean serum 25-OH-D3 level was 15.09 + 2.44 and 18.60 ± 1.88 μg/L,respectively,and there was no linear correlation between 25-OH-D3 and renal functioa Serum IP and LVMI had statistically significant difference between vitamin D deficiency group and non-vitamin D deficiency group(P<0.01 or0.05).Multivariate logistic gradual regressive analysis showed that BNP(≥1000 pg/mL),24-h urine protein(≥3.5 g),LDL(≥2.59 mmol/L) were involved in the regression equation(P<0.05).Conclusions Serum vitamin D level in CKD patients is commonly lower than in health people.BNP,24-h urine protein and LDL are independent risk factors of LVH in CKD patients.…”
