Polydomus karssenii gen. nov. sp. nov. is a dark septate endophyte with a bifunctional lifestyle parasitising eggs of plant parasitic cyst nematodes (Heterodera spp.)
Published 2023-03-01“…The pathogenicity tests against nematode eggs fulfilled Koch’s postulates using in vitro nematode bioassays and showed that the fungus could parasitise its original nematode host H. filipjevi as well as the sugar beet cyst nematode H. schachtii, and colonise cysts and eggs of its hosts by forming highly melanised moniliform hyphae. Light microscopic observations on fungus-root interactions in an axenic system revealed the capacity of the same fungal strain to colonise the roots of wheat and produce melanised hyphae and microsclerotia-like structure typical for dark septate endophytes. …”

Proximal bronchiolar adenoma with malignant transformation to invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma with 4 years follow-up: a case report and literature review
Published 2025-01-01“…In frozen sections, basal cells are difficult to identify under the microscope, which makes it difficult to distinguish from mucinous adenocarcinoma, especially when BA malignancies transform into invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma (IMA), which can only be distinguished by histomorphological criteria, greatly increasing the difficulty of diagnosis.Case summaryIn this paper, we present a case study of a 59-year-old man whose chest computed tomography (CT) revealed a progressively enlarging, high-density nodule over a four-year period in the outer basal segment of the right lower lobe. …”

Ultrastructural studies distinguish skin diversities among Galápagos iguanas
Published 2025-02-01“…Notably, the absence of iridophores was consistent across all samples due to the absence of birefringent material under the optical microscope. Morphometric evaluations highlighted interspecific differences in the stratum corneum thickness, particularly between black- and non-black-colored (irrespectively if yellowish or pink) skin. …”

Possibility of using a mouse SCID as a model animal to variola virus for evaluating anti-smallpox drug efficacy
Published 2015-12-01“…To fill in the gap, we have explored the possibility of using outbred immunodeficient SCID mice as a model animal for smallpox with the aid of virological, histological and electron microscopic and statistical methods. There was no clinical evidence of disease by intranasal infection of mice at a dose of 5.2 log10 PFU (plaque forming units). …”
