Microscale insight into the proton concentration during electrolytic reaction via an optical microfiber: potential for microcurrent monitoring by a dielectric probe by Yunyun Huang, Jiaxuan Liang, Haotian Wu, Pengwei Chen, Aoxiang Xiao, Bai-Ou Guan

    Published 2025-02-01
“…This approach provides a powerful complement to electrochemical methods for the elucidation of microscale reaction mechanisms. The information provided by the prepared dielectric fiber-optic sensor will shed more light on proton kinetics and electrochemical and electrobiological mechanisms, which may fill an important gap in the current bioelectricity and battery monitoring methods.…”

Decoupling microbial iron reduction from anoxic microsite formation in oxic sediments: a microscale investigation through microfluidic models by Giulia Ceriotti, Alice Bosco-Santos, Sergey M. Borisov, Jasmine S. Berg

    Published 2025-01-01
“…However, evidence of Fe reduction in oxic, partially saturated subsurface systems, such as soils and vadose zones, has been reported, with the common explanation being the formation of anoxic microsites that remain undetected by bulk measurements. To explore how microscale oxygen concentrations regulate microbial Fe reduction, we cultivated a facultative Fe-reducing bacterium using a microfluidic setup integrated with transparent planar oxygen sensors. …”

Noninvasive imaging biomarker reveals invisible microscopic variation in acute ischaemic stroke (≤ 24 h): a multicentre retrospective study by Kui Sun, Rongchao Shi, Xinxin Yu, Ying Wang, Wei Zhang, Xiaoxia Yang, Mei Zhang, Jian Wang, Shu Jiang, Haiou Li, Bing Kang, Tong Li, Shuying Zhao, Yu Ai, Jianfeng Qiu, Haiyan Wang, Ximing Wang

    Published 2025-01-01
“…Abstract To develop and validate non-contrast computed tomography (NCCT)-based radiomics method combines machine learning (ML) to investigate invisible microscopic acute ischaemic stroke (AIS) lesions. We retrospectively analyzed 1122 patients from August 2015 to July 2022, whose were later confirmed AIS by diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI). …”

Microscopic Analysis of Severe Structural Rearrangements of the Plant Endoplasmic Reticulum and Golgi Caused by Overexpression of Poa semilatent virus Movement Protein by Andrey G. Solovyev, Joachim Schiemann, Sergey Y. Morozov

    Published 2012-01-01
“…Recently, it was revealed that overexpression of Potato virus X TGBp3 triggers the unfolded protein response mitigating the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress leading to cell death if this protein reaches high levels in the ER. Here we report microscopic studies of the influence of the Poa semilatent hordeivirus TGBp3 overexpressed in Nicotiana benthamiana epidermal cells by particle bombardment on cell endomembranes and demonstrate that the protein C-terminal transmembrane segment contains a determinant responsible for vesiculation and coalescence of the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi presumably accompanying the ER stress that can be induced upon high-level TGBp3 expression.…”
