Erratum to: Investigating the steady state ofmulticellular sheroids by revisiting the two-fluid model by Antonio Fasano, Marco Gabrielli, Alberto Gandolfi

    Published 2012-06-01
“…\end{align}The comments that followed Eq. (45) then change accordingly. It is immediate to realize that the presence of $\tau_0$ has two effects: itincreases the minimal value of the surface tension needed for the existenceof the steady state, and, given $\gamma$, if (45) hasa solution this solution is greater than the solution of (35).However, since it is possible that the surface tension $\gamma$ has a monotonedependence on the yield stress $\tau_0$ (both these quantity have theirphysical origin in the intercellular adhesion bonds), a partialcompensation of the effect of the yield stress on the determination of $R$can be expected. For more information please click the 'Full Text' above.…”

Sparse Bayesian learning-based massive multi-user detection algorithm by Pingping CHEN, Xuanda WANG, Zhaopeng XIE, Yi FANG, Jiahui CHEN

    Published 2023-10-01
“…Aiming at the problem that most existing algorithms were based on the Gaussian inverse gamma prior model (GIG-SBL), which ignored the sparsity of the support set vector within the sparse solution, a sparse Bayesian learning framework based on the Bernoulli Gaussian inverse gamma prior model (BGIG-SBL) was proposed.By introducing a binary vector of Bernoulli prior, the BGIG-SBL-SMV algorithm based on single measurement vector (SMV) was designed, which utilized the sparsity of the support set vector to improve reconstruction performance. Then the proposed algorithm was extended to multiple measurement vector (MMV) models by sharing the same hyperparameters. The BGIG-SBL-MMV algorithm was developed based on the joint sparsity of MMV.The experimental results show that the proposed BGIG-SBL-SMV can achieve a performance gain of 2 dB in mMTC over the traditional GIG-SBL-SMV.Moreover, BGIG-SBL-MMV has a performance gain of 4 dB as compared with its SMV counterparts, which demonstrates the advantages of the proposed schemes.…”

Dimension reduction for maximum matchings and the Fastest Mixing Markov Chain by Jain, Vishesh, Pham, Huy, Vuong, Thuy-Duong

    Published 2023-07-01
“…We show that there exists a symmetric, stochastic matrix $P$, with off-diagonal entries supported on $E$, whose spectral gap $\gamma ^*(P)$ satisfies \[ \Psi ^*(G)^{2}/\log \Delta \lesssim \gamma ^*(P) \lesssim \Psi ^*(G). \] Our bound is optimal under the Small Set Expansion Hypothesis, and answers a question of Olesker-Taylor and Zanetti, who obtained such a result with $\log \Delta $ replaced by $\log |V|$.In order to obtain our result, we show how to embed a negative-type semi-metric $d$ defined on $V$ into a negative-type semi-metric $d^{\prime }$ supported in $\mathbb{R}^{O(\log \Delta )}$, such that the (fractional) matching number of the weighted graph $(V,E,d)$ is approximately equal to that of $(V,E,d^{\prime })$.…”

Performance analysis of dual-hop PLC-FSO communication system by Shenghai CHEN, Xiaoqin YAN, Sai LI, Liang YANG

    Published 2021-10-01
“…A dual-hop power line communication and free-space optical communication (PLC-FSO) system was proposed, where an amplify-and-forward (AF) relay was applied to help the signal transmission between the PLC link and the FSO link.More specifically, it was assumed that the PLC link was affected by both additive background noise and impulsive noise, and the channel fading followed log-normal distribution, while the fading induced by the atmospheric turbulence in the FSO link followed a Gamma-Gamma distribution, and the effect of pointing errors was also considered.Based on this model, closed-form expressions for the outage probability, bit error rate, and the channel capacity were derived. In addition, asymptotic analysis for the outage probability and BER, and upper bound expression for the channel capacity were presented. Finally, the accuracy of the analytical results was justified through Monte-Carlo simulations. The results show that the system outage probability decreases as the pointing error parameter increases and the smaller the PLC link impulse noise, the lower the bit error rate. The system capacity increases as the turbulence intensity decreases.…”
