Mussel-inspired thermo-switchable underwater adhesive based on a Janus hydrogel by Hiroya Abe, Daichi Yoshihara, Soichiro Tottori, Matsuhiko Nishizawa

    Published 2024-10-01
“…This thermoswitchable adhesive (TSA) hydrogel displays both strong adhesion and gentle detachment with an over 1000-fold gap in underwater adhesion strength onto glass, titanium, aluminum, and Teflon substrates when exposed to temperatures above and below the lower critical solution temperature (LCST). The adhesion switch is possibly caused by the change in toughness of the TSA hydrogels with temperature because the Janus hydrogel possesses gradient crosslinked structures. …”

Calculation of Theoretical and Empirical Nutrient N Critical Loads in the Mixed Conifer Ecosystems of Southern California by Joan Breiner, Benjamin S. Gimeno, Mark Fenn

    Published 2007-01-01
“…Similarly, the highest theoretical CL for nutrient N calculated using the simple mass balance steady state model (estimates ranging from 1.4–8.8 kg N/ha/year) was approximately two times lower than the empirical observations. Further research is needed to derive the thresholds for indicators associated with the impairment of these mixed conifer forests exposed to chronic N deposition within a Mediterranean climate. …”

Variable Torque Control of Offshore Wind Turbine on Spar Floating Platform Using Advanced RBF Neural Network by Lei Wang, Shan Zuo, Y. D. Song, Zheng Zhou

    Published 2014-01-01
“…Aiming at the external disturbances and nonlinear uncertain dynamic systems of OFWT because of the proximity to load centers and strong wave coupling, this paper proposes an advanced radial basis function (RBF) neural network approach for torque control of OFWT system at speeds lower than rated wind speed. The robust RBF neural network weight adaptive rules are acquired based on the Lyapunov stability analysis. …”

Evolution Characteristics of Microbial Diversity During the Treatment of Black-odor Water by Carbon Fiber Bio-contact Oxidation by ZHANG Min, LIU Fengru, YIN Juan, LI Hongju, XU Yang, ZHANG Yang

    Published 2020-01-01
“…In order to investigate the influence of the growth environment on the evolution of the structural diversity characteristics of the bacterial community during the treatment of black-odor water by carbon fiber bio-contact oxidation, this paper studies the characteristics of bacterial community on inoculated sludge,in-equipment activated sludge and carbon fiber membrane by high-throughput sequencing techniques. The results show that with the progress of biofilm culturing, the microbial species of activated sludge in the equipment gradually decreased, the diversity of bacterial community structure increased compared with inoculated sludge. The difference in bacterial community structure between the carbon fiber membrane D sample and E sample at stable phase was small. The analysis results of dominant bacterial flora show that there were 20 phylum found in the samples. The dominant microbial populations were Proteobacteria,Pachyphyta,Actinomycetes and Bacteroides with their relative abundance of about 75%~95%.At the class level, more than 20 classes were found in the samples, the dominant microbial populations were Alphaproteobacteria,Betaproteobacteria,Deltaproteobacteria and Gammaproteobacteria. The Alphaproteobacteria and Gammaproteobacteria on activated sludge and carbon fiber in the equipment were higher than those in the inoculated sludge, and the clostridia was lower than that in the inoculated sludge, indicating that the bacterial community structure had undergone significant changes after inoculated biofilm culturing with activated sludge.…”
