The change in electronic structure of oriented multilayer carbon nanotubes under action of pulsed ion beam of nanosecond duration by P. M. Korusenko, S. N. Nesov, S. N. Povoroznyuk

    Published 2018-07-01
“…Using the equipment of the Russian-German channel of the RGL station (BESSY II, Germany), the Kratos Axis Ultra DLD laboratory spectrometer and the transmission electron microscope, data are obtained on the chemical state of MWCNTs and their structure after irradiation with a pulsed ion beam of nanosecond duration. It is shown that pulsed ion irradiation leads to the formation of new structural formations: thin nanotubes with an outer diameter of ~5 nm, structures up to ~ 20 nm in size, consisting of encapsulated iron clusters in a graphite shell, and also of a onion-like carbon with a characteristic size of ~5 nm. …”

Sleep duration, chronotype, health and lifestyle factors affect cognition: a UK Biobank cross-sectional study by Daqing Ma, Raha West, Zhigang Liu, Ji-Eun Park, Ryan Tak Chun Wong, Si Woo Lee, Dinayinie Ekanayake Mudiyanselage

    Published 2024-07-01
“…The analysis was adjusted for demographic and comorbidity covariates.Main outcomes and measures Cognitive performance scores were evaluated against sleep parameters and health and lifestyle factors including sex, age, vascular and cardiac conditions, diabetes, alcohol intake, smoking habits and body mass index. Results The regression highlighted a positive association between normal sleep duration (7–9 hours) and cognitive scores in Cohort 1 (β=0.0567, 95% CI 0.0284 to 0.0851), while extended sleep duration negatively impacted scores across both cohorts (Cohort 1: β=−0.188, 95% CI −0.2938 to −0.0822; Cohort 2: β=−0.2619, 95% CI −0.3755 to −0.1482). …”

Spatiotemporal Distribution Characteristics of Mesoscale Convective Systems Producing Short-Duration Heavy Rainfall over the Tianshan Mountain Area by Jiangang Li, Lianmei Yang, Wen Liu, Cailian Jiang

    Published 2019-01-01
“…Based on hourly precipitation data and FY-2 satellite infrared (IR) digital satellite imagery collected during the warm season from 2005 to 2015 in the Tianshan Mountains and the adjacent areas in Xinjiang, China, the definition of mesoscale convective systems (MCSs) was revised based on short-duration heavy precipitation processes. The spatiotemporal development of MCSs in terms of the initiation, maturation, dissipation, duration, and movement was statistically analyzed. …”
