Further accelerating the search of differential characteristics based on the SAT method by Zheng XU

    Published 2022-10-01
“…Sun et al.’s method of using Matsui’s bounding conditions to accelerate the search of differential characteristics was reviewed.Matsui’s boundary conditions and Sun et al.’s method of using Matsui’s bounding conditions to accelerate the search of differential characteristics were improved for better search efficiency. Then an improved method to search for the optimal differential characteristics in block ciphers was proposed.Besides, the accelerating effects of the number of threads and the query condition were investigated, and a strategy for choosing the number of threads and the query condition were proposed.STP and CryptoMiniSat were used to search for 8-round SPECK96 differential characteristics with probabilities of 2- 24, 2- 25, 2- 26and 11-round HIGHT differential characteristics with a probability of 2- 39, then the time-consuming of solving SAT/SMT problems under different number of threads and query conditions were compared. It was found that the number of threads has a great effect on the time consumption of searching for differential characteristics, while the query condition may have little effect on the time consumption of searching for differential characteristics. Then, a strategy on how to select the number of threads and the query condition was proposed.Furthermore, it was found that STP can affect the overall efficiency of the search.According to the proposed strategy, the 11-round optimal differential characteristics of HIGHT were searched by using the improved bounding conditions and improved method.A tight bound for the probability of the 11-round optimal differential characteristics of HIGHT was obtained for the first time, i.e.2- 45.To the best of our knowledge, the existing tightest bound of the optimal 11-round HIGHT is <inline-formula><math xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"> <msubsup> <mi>P</mi> <mrow> <mtext>Opt</mtext></mrow> <mrow> <mn>11</mn></mrow> </msubsup> <mo>≥</mo><msup> <mn>2</mn> <mrow> <mo>−</mo><mn>45</mn></mrow> </msup> </math></inline-formula> .This means that using the existing tightest bound of the optimal 11-round HIGHT cannot give an accurate evaluation of the security of 11-round HIGHT against differential cryptanalysis. Therefore, the result is the best-known result.…”

Automatic search algorithm for differential characteristics in ARX ciphers by Zheng-bin LIU

    Published 2016-05-01
“…How to compute the differential of modular addition efficiently is critical to automatic search for differential characteristic in ARX ciphers. To solve this problem, firstly, the concept of collerated difference distribution table (CDDT) was proposed.By looking up the CDDT,it was very efficient to compute the differential probability of modular addition.Secondly, extending Matsui’s algorithm to ARX cihpers and using CDDT,an automatic search algorithm was proposed, and the algorithm could give the differential characteristic with highest probability in ARX ciphers. Finally, the proposed algorithm was applied to the ARX cipher SPECK,and got the best differential characteristics for SPECK32,SPECK48 and SPECK64.…”

Intrusion detection method based on machine learning by TIAN Xin-guang1, GAO Li-zhi2, ZHANG Er-yang1

    Published 2006-01-01
“…A new intrusion detection method was presented based on machine learning for intrusion detection systems using shell commands as audit data.In the method, multiple dictionaries of shell command sequences of different lengths were constructed to represent the normal behavior profile of a network user.During the detection stage, the similarities between the command sequences generated by the monitored user and the sequence dictionaries were calculated. These similarities were then smoothed with sliding windows, and the smoothed similarities were used to determine whether the monitored user’s behaviors were normal or anomalous. The results of the experience show the method can achieve higher detection accuracy and shorter detection time than the instance-based method presented by Lane T.…”

Research on Windows memory protection mechanism by Ting-ting LU, Jun-feng WANG

    Published 2017-10-01
“…Over the past three decades, attacks exploiting Windows memory holes have emerged in an endless stream, and the usual means is to attack control-data to hijack the execution flow of the program. To this end,Microsoft has added layers of protection mechanisms to Windows to prevent such attacks. But at this stage, the defensive mechanisms deployed on Windows cannot prevent attacks against non-control-data.In view of the published articles lacking comprehensive study of Windows memory protection mechanism,a detailed introduction to Windows memory protection mechanism and its breakthrough techniques, and non-control-data protection research status was conducted. On this basis, the challenges of Windows memory protection were analyzed and the future of memory protection was discussed.…”
