Retrospective evaluation of acid–base imbalances, clinicopathologic alterations, and prognostic factors in hospitalized calves with Eimeria-associated diarrhea by Andrea Urgibl-Bauer, Annette Lorch, Dana Badura, Yury Zablotski, Peter D. Constable, Florian M. Trefz

    Published 2025-01-01
“…In contrast to neonatal calves with diarrhea, there are very few reports about the clinicopathological alterations in affected animals, which are mainly based on experimental data. The aim of the present study was therefore to characterize acid–base and related clinicopathologic alterations in calves with Eimeria-associated diarrhea and to identify variables associated with in-hospital mortality.MethodsRetrospective analysis of clinical and clinicopathologic findings extracted from medical records of 118 calves aged 1 to 5 months admitted to a veterinary teaching hospital.ResultsSeverely affected calves were profoundly hyponatremic and hypochloremic, with a strong correlation between plasma sodium and chloride concentrations (Spearman’s rs = 0.90). …”

Artificial bee colony algorithm based self-optimization of base station antenna azimuth and down-tilt angles by Jiaqi CAI, Haibin WAN, Youming SUN, Tuanfa QIN

    Published 2021-01-01
“…Aiming at the problem of SON coverage self-optimization proposed in 3GPP, a method based on artificial bee colony algorithm was proposed to optimize the azimuth and down-tilt angles of base station antenna at the same time.Firstly, the base station determined the area to be optimized according to the MR data reported by user equipment, and established the objective function of the average gain of the base station antenna area to be optimized.Secondly, the artificial bee colony algorithm was used to solve the objective function, and the optimal solution of the base station antenna azimuth and down-til tangle was got. Finally, the base station antenna azimuth and down-tiltangles were adjusted to the optimal value to achieve the coverage self-optimization of the base station.Through system modeling, simulation and field verification, taking the RSRP received by the user’s equipment as the index, the identification method using the artificial bee colony algorithm was improved, 6.81 dB higher than the initial parameters which were not optimized, and 4.35 dB higher than the method based on artificial experience. The experimental results show that the optimization method proposed can accurately and timely adjust the azimuth and down-tiltangles of the base station antenna according to the user distribution, and improve the signal strength received by the user equipment.…”

Reassessing the roles of oxidative DNA base lesion 8-oxoGua and repair enzyme OGG1 in tumorigenesis by Jing Wang, Chunshuang Li, Jinling Han, Yaoyao Xue, Xu Zheng, Ruoxi Wang, Zsolt Radak, Yusaku Nakabeppu, Istvan Boldogh, Xueqing Ba

    Published 2025-01-01
“…The accumulation of genomic 8-oxoGua and the dysfunction of OGG1 is readily linked to mutagenesis, and subsequently aging-related diseases and tumorigenesis; however, the direct experimental evidence has long been lacking. Recently, a series of studies have shown that guanine oxidation in the genome has a conservative bias, with the tendency to occur in the regulatory regions, thus, 8-oxoGua is not only a lesion to be repaired, but also an epigenetic modification. …”
