Dynamic structural characteristics and vibration susceptibility of Tongren loess under the influence of water content and confining pressure by Changbao Guo, Sanshao Ren, Yinlong Tan, Yaqi Shen

    Published 2025-01-01
“…However, the dynamic friction angle is less affected by water content changes, decreasing by 18% ~ 25% when saturated. Under dynamic conditions, the dynamic friction angle of Tongren loess is only 12 ~ 16°, making slopes composed of Tongren loess highly susceptible to instability and sliding under strong earthquake conditions. …”

The role of Beringia in human adaptation to Arctic conditions based on results of genomic studies of modern and ancient populations by B. A. Malyarchuk

    Published 2023-07-01
“…Meanwhile, the analysis of the existing hypotheses about the selection of some genetic variants in the Beringian ancestors of the Amerindians in connection with adaptation to the Arctic conditions (for example, in the FADS, ACTN3, EDAR genes) shows the ambiguity of the testing results, which may be due to the loss of some traces of the “Beringian” adaptation in the gene pools of modern Native Americans. …”

Evaluation of Phsicochemical Properties, Drying Process and Drying Conditions of Natural Rubber Latex and Ribbed Smoked Sheets by I. O. Bakare

    Published 2025-02-01
“…The phsico-chemical properties of the starting field latex and the RSS were investigated in addition to the drying process and drying conditions. The results obtained showed that processing NR into RSS not only served as a preservative, which improved the storage durability, but also imparted flavor, aroma, and attractive color to the cured sheets. This study sheds more light on the processing, storage conditions, durability, and efficient production of high-value-added RSS developed from natural rubber latex. …”

Numerical characterization of hemodynamics conditions near aortic valve after implantation of left ventricular assist device by Annalisa Quaini, Sunčica Čanić, David Paniagua

    Published 2011-05-01
“…The use of LVADs has been associated with thrombus formation next to the aortic valve and close to the anastomosis region, especially in patients in which the native cardiac function isnegligible and the aortic valve remains closed.Stagnation points and recirculation zones have been implicated as the main fluid dynamics factors contributing to thrombus formation. The purpose of the present study was to develop and use computer simulations based on afluid-structure interaction (FSI) solver to study flow conditions corresponding to different strategies inLVAD ascending aortic anastomosis providing a scenario with the lowest likelihood of thrombus formation.A novel FSI algorithm was developed to dealwith the presence of multiple structures corresponding to different elastic properties ofthe native aorta and of the LVAD cannula.A sensitivity analysis of different variables was performed to assess their impact of flow conditionspotentially leading to thrombus formation. It was found that the location of the anastomosis closest to the aortic valve(within 4 cm away from the valve)and at the angle of 30$^\circ$ minimizes the likelihood of thrombus formation.Furthermore, it was shownthat the rigidity of the dacron anastomosis cannula plays almost no role in generating pathologicalconditions downstream from the anastomosis.Additionally, the flow analysis presented in this manuscriptindicates that compliance of the cardiovascular tissue acts as a natural inhibitor of pathological flow conditions conducive to thrombus formationand should not be neglected in computer simulations.…”
